Transform Your Baby’s Nursery With Wall Art

The ambience you are trying to create for your baby’s nursery not only entails nursery bedding, furniture, and window decor, it involves a great deal of decision-making regarding the walls. Walls have a tendency to be overlooked or “dealt with” as one of the last things needed to finish the nursery decorating process.

Sometimes wall art can come alive and encompass the entire room. In other rooms, it’s all about accent art with subtle, gentle patterns and nuances. Sometimes pulling an accent color or two from the baby bedding pattern or theme is all it takes to create an enjoyable environment for baby.

The following are some things to keep in mind when selecting wall art for baby nursery decoration:

Accent Art: small stencils, polka dots, small themed removable wall stickers

Wall Murals: large or small scale, themed removable stickers, hand-painted mural

Painted Walls:  accent color or main color pulled from bedding theme

While waiting for the arrival of my baby, I painted large animal shapes on the wall. These shapes were copied from the bedding and coordinating wall paper border. The shapes took up the top half of room, then the wallpaper border acted as a “chair rail” mid-way down the wall. The lower half of the walls were painted an accent color (sage green) from the bedding. It was a fun project, and absolutely worth the effort when my son would point to and name the animals when he was a toddler.

There is such a variety of available options. The “peel and stick” decor option is an amazing and easy way to brighten the walls. Paint-by-numbers is another wonderful way for those who have more time, patience and that creative spark. There is no right or wrong answer, and also some comfort in the fact that if you’re not completely satisfied with the results, the wall decor can be easily taken off or painted over.

Changing Table: Is It Really Needed?

As they say, hindsight is always 20/20!  I wondered whether or not to purchase a changing table for my baby’s nursery.  I chose not to buy a specific changing table that would only survive through the first few years of baby’s life (at least until he/she was potty-trained).  I used a dresser at the time (8+ years ago) and attached a supportive changing pad on top.  When my child graduated from diapers, the changing pad came off and the dresser continued to be used.  Today, there are some multi-functional pieces of baby furniture that can transition with your child as they grow.  The 3 Drawer Organizer and the Combo Organizer by LA Baby are great pieces that combine the functionality of a changing table with an aesthetically pleasing  dresser that can be used for years to come!

Diaper Stackers: Not Just For Diapers

May 18, 2009 Author: baby nursery decoration | Filed under: Diaper Stackers

Diaper stackers are great, they really are!  Depending on their size, they can stack approximately 60+ newborn diapers and 45+ larger diapers.  They are dependable, convenient (usually hang on a crib or by a changing table) and can coordinate with your baby nursery decor.  Diaper stackers can serve a larger purpose, a greater good for baby nursery organization.  I keep wipes and creams on the side of the diaper stacker for ease in having all items readily available when changing baby.  When my older children were potty trained, I used the stacker for small blankets and stuffed animals.  They can also be used to store toys, onesies, socks and general overflow of miscellaneous items from dressers and changing tables.  Stackers are not just for diapers anymore, they can be a “catchall” for all the extras.

Baby Nursery Bedding: A Great Place to Start

May 18, 2009 Author: baby nursery decoration | Filed under: Baby Nursery Bedding

Baby Nursery bedding can be thought of as the beginning stage to an amazing and creative baby nursery decor for your infant. People tend to first look for baby furniture and then their nursery decoration is developed with the furniture in mind. In reality, selecting the baby nursery bedding (baby linens, etc.) first is key to a successful baby nursery.

Why focus on choosing baby nursery bedding first? On a more personal note, while I was expecting my first child, I initially decided to focus on baby nursery furniture.  I purchased a crib, changing table, and gliding rocking chair. It was definitely a big mistake because I had to select a new pattern that matched the furniture and gave up on the my original, favorite bedding theme. The original/first choice of a whimsical bedding pattern I really loved only coordinated well with a white or natural-colored crib. More valuable time wasted!

Color and style of baby nursery bedding are important to consider when choosing your theme. Will the baby’s nursery be vibrant, exciting and energetic or soothing, delicate, and cozy? Brighter, more whimsical baby linens and bedding tend to coordinate well with lighter colored furniture (white, natural, light honey, etc.). Softer, traditional patterns and richer shades tend to look great with medium to dark-colored furniture (cherry, cognac, mahogany, etc.).

Other features to keep in mind are the background and/or ambience. Wall color, wall art and wall murals can make a baby’s room come alive.  The choices and combinations of color, pattern and/or scenes are endless. More to follow on how wall art and wall decor can tranform your baby’s nursery!

Baby nursery bedding tends to be the key to successful nursery decoration. Choose a theme or topic that you can envision building upon with items such as window treatments, storage bins, clocks, shelves, etc. Even furniture (crib, bassinet, cradle, rocking chair, dresser, changing table, etc.) can depend upon which bedding theme is chosen.
